Scouts orienteer in teams of 2 or 3. Adult leaders (Troops) are also welcome to test there maphike skills on the Orange course. 4 different Beginner/intermediate courses/ Rank & Age appropriate. New this year is that this is associated with the Washington Crossing DVOA O champs, held on 25 Oct, and a "combined" orienteering event Award for first place will be developed (details later) for Scouts running at both events.
-Note: May 2006 DVOA 5-color topographical map, 2.5 meter contours, 1:5000 scale. Field Work, Vladmir Zherdev. Production: Eric Weyman. DVOA club basic Orienteering Instruction available upon request (event is for both beginners & experienced hikers). Units must preregister via US mail (no walk ons). Equipment needed, Baseplate compass (1 per team) and a sense of adventure .. Forest is a mix of Oak and Maple forest, with occassional lone pine trees, with open grassy fields and a small stream and pond ecosystem.
Quail Hill is a Scout camp, so Cub and Boy/Girl Scout units can contact the Monmouth Council BSA office for optional tent or cabin camping permits.
